Gesta Francorum ("The Deeds of the Franks") tells the story of the first crusade, from the eyes of an eye-witness, a comrade (perhaps clergy) accompanying Bohemund of Taranto. From the preaching of the Crusade in western Europe, to the doors of the Roman Empire in Constantinople, to the battles at Nicea, Dorylaeum, Antioch and Jerusalem and the eventual defeat of the Turks and Arabs, Gesta Francorum shows the Frankish perspective on the first of what would be many attempted wars of reconquest. This volume also includes 20 engravings of Gustave Dorรฉ as illustration. The cover art is by late medieval illuminator Jean Colombe.
